This policy explains what SRD SASSA does with your information. It covers this website only. It does not cover the official SASSA SRD service or any other website we link to.
The Short Version
You do not need an account to use this site. We do not sell your information. The ID number and phone number you type into the status tool are used for that one check and are not saved on our side.
What the Status Tool Does With Your Details
When you use the status check, you enter your South African ID number and the phone number on your SRD application. We send those two values to the official SASSA SRD service and show you the answer it returns.
- We do not store your ID number or phone number in a database.
- We do not keep them in your browser after you close the page.
- We do not use them for marketing and we do not pass them to advertisers.
- The result shown on screen hides most of your ID number on purpose.
SASSA processes the information on your actual application under its own privacy terms and under POPIA. That part is between you and SASSA. Read our POPIA page for your rights under South African data protection law.
What Our Server Records
Like every website, our hosting records a technical log of requests. That log can include your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and the browser you used. We use it to keep the site working, to spot abuse, and to block attacks. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
Cookies
This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies of its own. Third-party services described below may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them will not stop the status tool from working.
Third-Party Services
These services run on this site and receive some information from your browser:
- The official SASSA SRD service. Receives the ID number and phone number you submit, because that is the only way to return a real status.
- Google. We show a button that lets you add this site as a Preferred Source in Google Search. Loading it means Google sees the usual request information, such as your IP address.
- Our hosting and security provider. Serves the pages and filters malicious traffic.
If we later run advertising on this site, ad networks may use cookies to choose which ads you see. You can control personalised advertising from Google at myadcenter.google.com.
Children
This site is written for adults applying for a grant. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your Rights
POPIA gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, to correct it, and to ask for it to be deleted. Because we do not store the details you enter, there is usually nothing on our side to return or delete. You can still write to us and we will answer.
Security
This site runs over HTTPS, so what you send is encrypted in transit. No website can promise perfect security. Never enter a bank PIN, an online banking password or a one-time PIN into this site or any other third-party site. SASSA will not ask you for those.
Changes to This Policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page. Check the date at the bottom before you rely on it.
